For more than 15 years the American video artist Christopher Kondek (1962, Boston) has made video for theatre. He did so especially for the famous Wooster Group from New York who are the pioneers for integrating media and performance in theatre, in productions such as The Hairy Ape and House. He also worked closely with Laurie Anderson, continuing his research into the integration and interaction of video with live action on the work floor. In 2001 he made the move to Europe (Berlin) where he made video images for a.o. productions by Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods such as ALIBI, Visitors only and Replacement. He often collaborates with Stefan Pucher and Wanda Golonka. Since a couple of years Kondek is involved more and more in opera productions, esp. with director Jossi Wieler.
With Productiehuis Rotterdam he conceived and realised his first own production Dead Cat Bounce, which premiered in January 2003 and since then has travelled all over Europe (in spring 2009 he will stage a Spanish version in Barcelona). In may 2006 we produced his second piece Hier ist der Apparat, based on Brecht piece, which - after several residencies in Rotterdam and Berlin - premiered during the KunstenFESTIVALdesarts in May 2006. His third piece, Loan Shark, goes back to the world of money and was realised in more or less the same construction. It was presented during the international festival De Internationale Keuze van de Rotterdamse Schouwburg in September 2008.
